Homes Destroyed, Lives Shattered—But You Can Help

Saturday, August 2, 2025

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

Psalm 34:18

Dear Friends,

As the summer days stretch on and the warmth of the season surrounds us, families in Israel should be preparing to send their children back to school and getting ready for the High Holidays that begin on September 22. This time of year is usually filled with hopeful anticipation—a season of reflection and preparation.

But for thousands of families across Israel, this summer looks entirely different.

In the aftermath of the recent war with Iran and the ongoing war in Gaza, the damage has been severe and widespread. Entire neighborhoods have been destroyed. Homes have been reduced to rubble. Families have lost not only their possessions but the very sense of security and routine that once anchored their lives.

Over 17,000 evacuees are now living in temporary housing situations. Many fled with only what they could carry, and they now face the overwhelming task of rebuilding their lives from the ground up. They are not just without homes—they are without the basic tools to begin again.

At Vision for Israel, we are standing in the gap, offering immediate and compassionate aid to those caught in this new and painful cycle of need.

As the high holidays approach, we are providing magnetic gift cards that can be used in supermarkets and other stores across the country. Each family receives $100. These cards allow families to purchase food and daily necessities—helping to restore not just their cupboards, but their dignity. Giving a mother the ability to choose what her family eats, or a father the chance to buy school supplies for his children—these are powerful, healing acts made possible by your generosity.

But the need this year is greater than ever.

Every gift card we distribute helps restore what was lost—not just physically, but emotionally. These families are not just in crisis—they are grieving, adjusting, and trying to find the courage to keep moving forward.

The back-to-school season is always a financial strain for low-income families, but this year it comes on the heels of unimaginable loss. Children who should be shopping for backpacks and notebooks are instead asking where they will sleep tonight. And as the High Holidays approach—a time meant for celebration, prayer, and community—many are wondering how they will set even the most basic holiday table.

We cannot ignore their suffering. We must not turn away.

Your gift of $100 allows us to continue delivering help directly to those in need. It enables us to provide timely aid during the most vulnerable moments and to serve as a bridge between despair and hope. Each gift you send becomes part of someone’s restoration story.

Together, we can ensure that more families receive the tools they need to survive this season and prepare for a better future.

Please give generously today.

Your compassion brings comfort. Your prayers bring strength. And your giving brings life.

As we prepare for the sacred days of Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Sukkot, may we remember those who are still in the wilderness of loss—and may we answer their need with love and action.

Todah Rabah and Shalom to you and your loved ones,

Barry & Batya
