Over 7,000 of the Israeli Defense Soldiers are alone—serving far away from their biological families. Many of them leave relatives, friends, and a comfortable life abroad to come and serve the nation of Israel. Others are Israelis who have no place to go because of extreme poverty or broken families.

When not in active service, these lone soldiers go back to an empty apartment. They don’t have parents to hug them, wash and iron their uniforms, or cook dinner for them. Many of them deal with financial distress due to the low wages they receive from the army.

At Vision for Israel, we appreciate the sacrifice of the lone soldiers, so caring for them has become an important outreach project. We work closely with organisations that support lone soldiers and we provide necessary items such as large travel backpacks, care packages, and financial aid to help the soldiers during their service. We salute our soldiers and stand by our commitment to improve their lives.

They risk their lives for their country—but many are fighting an invisible battle of their own.

Recovery from extreme trauma is a path that many in Israel walk for a lifetime. Updated figures from the Israeli Security Agency's 2023 Annual Summary starkly highlight the growing number of terror victims, a number that the 7th October attack has tragically augmented. As of 2023, the number of injured Israelis and foreigners has reached staggering new heights, emphasising the ever-increasing importance of support networks. 

Recent data from the National Insurance Institute from March 2024, indicates that 61,942 individuals have been victims of terrorist acts. The age breakdown of these victims includes 3,557 aged 0-3 years, 3,726 aged 3-6 years, 8,659 aged 6-14 years, 3,586 aged 14-18 years, and 42,414 aged 18 years and older. 

The Iron Swords War, ignited by Hamas’s brutal massacre on 7 October, has claimed the lives of 1,468 people in Israel to date. These war figures underscore the profound impact on Israel since its onset.

According to data from Israeli media, the war has so far claimed the lives of 839 civilians, including 36 children under the age of 18. Among them were a 10-month-old infant, 7 children aged 2-9 years old, and 29 teenagers aged 10-17 years old. Additionally, 629 security and rescue personnel have perished in the war, 586 of them IDF soldiers. 

Vision for Israel, since its poignant beginning following the 1996 bus bombings in Jerusalem, has stood steadfastly with survivors of terror. This tragedy, which touched the founders’ family directly, ignited a commitment to aid those who endure the aftermath of such violence. VFI's mission has since grown, touching thousands of lives through The Joseph Storehouse and later, the Millennium Centre, extending beyond financial assistance to include social support and celebrations like annual Bar/Bat Mitzvah events for survivors of terror.

Today, the scope of VFI's work is vast, ensuring that each act of kindness—whether a social event to provide relief from trauma, financial support during holidays, or individualised aid—is a step towards healing. The support provided is a testament to global generosity and serves as a beacon of hope to those navigating the aftermath of terror, war, and poverty.

Since 1994, Vision for Israel has been reaching out to Israelis of all backgrounds who are struggling with poverty. And this assistance has only become more critical, as a wave of poverty has swept the land—leaving many in its wake.

In 2022, the National Insurance Institute's report highlighted a pressing concern with 1.98 million Israelis, including 873,300 children and 152,500 senior citizens, living below the poverty line, marking a significant year-on-year increase. The report also underscored a deepening poverty crisis across nearly all demographic groups, with particularly high rates among ultra-Orthodox communities and families with multiple children. Food insecurity has also worsened, with over 30% of households experiencing nutritional insecurity due to economic reasons, emphasising the growing challenges in ensuring basic needs are met.

Thanks to the generosity of heroic donors like you, we’re able to supply essential emergency relief to poor and needy Jewish and Arab people throughout the nation of Israel.

Through the Millennium Centre, Vision for Israel’s distribution hub, we're able to route essential supplies such as food, gift cards, clothing, toiletries, kitchen and household items, appliances, blankets, towels, linens, diapers, infant and toddler necessities, toys, and so much more — all on a monthly basis.

With your help, we stand ready to answer the call—whenever the poor, immigrants, Holocaust survivors, lone soldiers, and terror survivors are in need. We do this by working directly with social workers, government agencies, and congregational leaders to ensure that each situation is one of genuine need and that our efforts are making the greatest impact.

When the Holocaust ended, many survivors sought refuge in Israel, aspiring for a place to call home. Sadly, today, a significant number of these survivors live in poverty and solitude, often having to choose between basic necessities such as food, medication, or heating during the cold winters. Moreover, they face the added burden of violence, terrorism, and the effects of natural adversities that further threaten their well-being.

Vision for Israel stands committed to alleviating these hardships. Amidst the challenging times brought on by the war starting on 7th October, VFI remained dedicated to uplifting the spirits of these cherished individuals. After the war necessitated the cancellation of events, VFI reinitiated a special musical brunch for Holocaust survivors, bringing them together for fellowship and support during these trying times. 

On 27 December 2023, we hosted 45 survivors from Jerusalem, providing a nutritious brunch, a musical performance, and warm duvets to fend off the winter chill. This event offered survivors a rare occasion to relish in camaraderie and entertainment, receiving both physical and immeasurable gifts of joy.

VFI also extends its hospitality through various events at the Millennium Centre, with a special focus on Holocaust survivors. An event for the Cafe Europa social club from Arad involved public singing, dancing, and a multilingual musical performance. Barry and Batya Segal personally met with the survivors, reinforcing the commitment of VFI to support the Holocaust survivors throughout Israel. 

This gathering, which included a sumptuous lunch, was not just a meal but a celebration of life. Such events demonstrate VFI's ongoing priority to honour these individuals' legacies of bravery and courage.

The personal stories, the laughter, the dances, and the songs shared during these events are pivotal in reminding the survivors that they are seen, valued, and never forgotten. These acts are a testament to VFI's commitment to providing holistic support — addressing the material, emotional, and social needs of those who endured the unimaginable, and now, deserve to experience every possible care and comfort in their later years.

They endured more than we could ever truly grasp—and they need our help.

We want to say a big thank you for donating over 50 blankets to Holocaust survivors who are participating in "Cafe Europa", Holon. The people were very excited to receive the donation, and especially excited by the gesture and honour you gave them. We hope for continued cooperation in the future.

Today, we’re focusing our efforts on some of the most deserving recipients of our care and generosity—Holocaust survivors. By definition, Holocaust survivors are of advanced age, and many of them suffer from health complications, a higher risk of mortality due to Covid-19, and ever-present loneliness. 
 
Pessy grew up in Leipzig and quickly bore witness to unspeakable atrocities acted upon her family and the other Jews of Europe. Her harrowing tale of escape, heroism, and redemption serves as an example—both of the inhuman treatment inflicted by the Nazis and the powerful perseverance of the faithful.

Like Pessy there are over 180,000 survivors in Israel who are nothing short of walking miracles who live amongst us.

Holocaust Survivor's Story - Escaping from Kristallnacht: Pessy’s Story

Israel is home to new Olim, immigrants from all over the world, who have made Aliyah throughout the years. We believe in the fundamental right of every Jewish person to come live in Israel and make it their home.

Many, like Israel’s sizable Ethiopian community, have escaped persecution for being Jewish — and have come to Israel for a sense of hope and security. For them, it often meant leaving their properties and belongings behind to live in a new land, with a new language, new culture, and new customs. 

Since the war between Russia and Ukraine broke out, many new immigrants came to Israel from both countries. VFI has been supporting them with clothing and other essentials to ease their transition into a new life.

With no assistance, the transition process can be long and complicated.

Vision for Israel has worked with the Jewish Agency for years at absorption centres — donating vital goods like food, clothing, blankets, baby supplies, furniture, electronics— and even medical aid. 

We have also collaborated with congregations all over the country to support new Olim who attend their congregations.

As followers of Yeshua, we know it’s our responsibility to help immigrants, the poor, the sick, and all who have experienced the trauma of war and persecution — and to fully welcome them into community life, and Israeli culture.  

They faced a harrowing journey—but it’s only just begun.
