“In your unfailing love, silence my enemies.” Ps 143.12
The effects of the fires that raged across Israel in November did not disappear once the fires were finally quenched. The Azaguri* family found themselves without a home after their house was burned in the fire. The family has 5 children; the youngest is just 9 months old, and two of the children have special needs including learning disabilities and epilepsy. The fire damaged the infrastructure of the building, especially the electricity, and the whole building was declared as dangerous.
One of our volunteers shared that this week's Cafe Europa event for Holocaust survivors was one of the most memorable events she has ever attended, and that the survivors were some of the most gracious, appreciative seniors she's encountered. The staff and volunteers were all eager to lend a helping hand, and they seemed like they really loved what they were doing, from the person in charge to the youngest volunteers. Their smiles were proof that they really loved these seniors. The food that VFI provided was presented beautifully, and it tasted as good as it looked.
“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people He has chosen as His own inheritance.” Ps. 33:12
Many Holocaust survivors suffer from the cold winter because they cannot afford to buy space heaters. Every day, we get phone calls from survivors asking for help to heat their homes. Because of this crisis, this winter we have committed to distributing heaters to 100 survivors who cannot afford to purchase them on their own or to pay for central heating. As we were delivering radiators recently, we met two special survivors who shared their stories.
“Remember me, Lord, when you show favor to your people, come to my aid when you save them, that I may enjoy the prosperity of your chosen ones, that I may share in the joy of your nation and join your inheritance in giving praise.” Ps 106: 4-5
“You will arise and have mercy on Zion; for the time to favor her, yes, the set time, has come.”
Ps 102: 13
“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people - for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” I Tim. 2:1-2
“The Lord will extend your mighty scepter from Zion; saying, ‘Rule in the midst of your enemies!’” Ps 110: 2
