Ancient Coin Discovered During Brazilian Visit To Shiloh

Jun 10, 2019

“The Lord will guide you always. He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and strengthen your frame. You shall be like a well-watered garden, like a spring, whose waters never fail,” Isa 58:11

ANCIENT COIN DISCOVERED DURING BRAZILIAN VISIT TO SHILOH: A rare coin was discovered at an archaeological dig in Shiloh during a visit by Brazilian officials last week. The 2,000-year-old coin was uncovered as a delegation of governors and Congress members from Brazil were briefed by Dr. Scott Stripling who heads the excavations at the site where the Biblical tabernacle once stood. An especially exciting moment occurred during the presentation of Dr. Striping of recent unique findings when suddenly one of the diggers nearby found a 2000-year-old coin from the Hasmonean period. The participants where extremely move. Today, there is a modern Jewish community in Shiloh and the Brazilian delegation met with local residents to learn about the political situation and the history of the area. The visit was a part of a tour of the Benjamin Region of Samaria, located in the post-1967 areas north of Jerusalem. Among the participants was Everaldo Dias Pereira, head of the Social Christian Party who made headlines three years ago when he baptized Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro in Israel's Jordan River. (J.Post/Arutz-7)

IRAN IS ‘SIX MONTHS AWAY FROM AN ATOMIC BOMB’: Olli Heinonen, who headed the International Atomic Energy Agency's security team and served as the organizations' deputy director-general, days ago, told Army Radio that Israelis, on the whole, are not aware of the severity of the Iranian threat. "Israelis need to be worried, and the Gulf states also have a reason for concern," Heinonen said. "How will you be able to ensure your security if Iran achieves nuclear abilities?" In the full interview, which aired Thur. morning, 6 June 2019 Heinonen said that despite IAEA's claims, Iran can develop nuclear weapons in up to six to eight months. Slamming IAEA's handling of the threat, Heinonen said the agency ignores Tehran's race to achieve nuclear weapons. "The Ayatollahs can handle the new sanctions, and in the meantime, they're making new centrifuges," he explained. (Arutz-7)

EX-MOSSAD CHIEF YATOM: ISRAEL STILL ALONE WITH IRAN DESPITE NEW USA FORCES: Former Mossad chief Danny Yatom made it clear last week that he views Israel as mostly alone in dealing with military threats from Iran, despite new USA deployments. Yatom focused his comments on how the “USA withdrew forces from the region” in Syria and elsewhere. Speaking to media sources, Yatom clarified that he viewed all of the new announced USA deployments as weak. He said that many of them had not even occurred yet and were only intended deployments. Further, he said that previously the USA had large forces in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria, including serious ground troop commitments, all of which have been withdrawn. Recently, the USA deployed additional naval vessels and aircraft to deter Iran from attacking USA forces in the region as part of the nuclear standoff between the countries. In addition, the USA announced that it would be introducing 1,500 troops into the region. However, none of the troops has been transferred here and clarifications by USA defense officials indicated that they were intelligence and missile defense support personnel, not ground forces.

Yatom’s point appeared to be that the forces were deployed only to protect USA personnel in the region and that Israel would still be solely responsible for dealing with Iranian conventional military threats from within Syria via Hezbollah and from potential future nuclear threats. “It looks as if crippling sanctions, maybe for the first time, are going to have an effect because the economic situation in Iran is becoming worse,” Yatom said, addressing the Iranian nuclear issue more broadly. “The value of the rial is getting lower and lower.” Still, Yatom’s biggest concern was Iran’s attempt to establish a new front against Israel from within Syrian territory, as well as its efforts to form a land bridge to Hezbollah in Lebanon to make it easier to transfer heavy weapons to its main proxy for fighting Israel. USA TO PRESS RUSSIA ON IRANIAN PRESENCE IN SYRIA: A senior White House official said last week that the USA plans to stress to Russia during its trilateral national security advisers summit in Jerusalem this month that Iranian forces and their proxies have to leave Syria. The trilateral meeting between the national security advisers of Israel, the USA, and Russia in late June 2019 is an unprecedented event. The White House official said the main focus of the summit will be Syria and Iran's activities in Syria, Lebanon and the rest of the region. Israel wants to use the summit to push the USA and Russia closer together in order to get a deal on Syria that would push Iranian forces out of the country.  National security adviser John Bolton is going to stress during the summit that Iran is not playing any positive role in Syria or the region as a whole. The official added that the Trump administration is very concerned with Iranian actions in Syria and supports Israeli airstrikes against Iranian military entrenchment in the country. "We are sure the Iranians are not happy that this meeting is taking place and that the Israelis are publicly hosting the Americans and the Russians together in Jerusalem to talk about Iran. The fact the Russians are attending this meeting is important in itself," said the official. A Syrian official told Russian media last week that there are no plans for Iran to reduce its troop levels in the country, even if the USA and Israel seek to offer Russia a deal. (Arutz-7)

HEZBOLLAH MEMBERS RISE TO 1,050 IN GERMANY AMID GROWING JEW-HATRED: A new German intelligence report asserts the number of Hezbollah members and supporters has climbed from 950 in 2017 to 1,050 in 2018 amid rising Jew-hatred in the federal republic. The report covers 2018 and was released on 22 May 2019. “Hezbollah denies the right of existence of the State of Israel and fights it with terrorist means,” the intelligence report wrote. “Hezbollah is against the idea of international understanding and the peaceful coexistence of peoples,” the report noted. “The ‘party’ of Hezbollah was founded under the authority of the Islamic Republic of Iran, representing the most radical party of the Lebanese Shi’ite community.” The report said the model for Hezbollah is the Iranian regime’s revolutionary system.

The United Kingdom proscribed all of Hezbollah a terrorist entity in Feb. 2019. In addition to the UK, the USA, Canada, the Netherlands, the Arab League, and Israel all classify Hezbollah a terrorist entity. German Chancellor Angela Merkel and her interior minister, Horst Seehofer, ignored an urgent plea from the country’s nearly 100,000-member Jewish community to outlaw Hezbollah. When repeatedly asked last week by reporters if the German government – in response to a demand by the Central Council of Jews – plans to ban Hezbollah, Merkel and Seehofer refused to answer. (J. TERRORIST ATTACKS ON ISRAELIS TRIPLED IN MAY: Terrorist attacks against Israelis more than tripled in May 2019, which was the deadliest month in almost two years. The increase to 449 incidents in May over April’s 126 incidents owes to the launching of hundreds of rockets last month from Gaza into Israel. The rockets killed four people and wounded eight out of the 10 wounded in terrorist attacks in May. The remaining two were stabbed in Jerusalem, the Israel Security Agency (Shabak) said in its monthly report for May published last week. Terrorist attacks in Judea and Samaria, meanwhile, decreased by 43 %, from 88 in April to 50 last month. Last week, the Israel Security Agency, or ISA, revealed it had foiled a plan by Hamas to set off an explosive charge inside Israel on 9 April 2019, during the general elections. A 23-year-old man Yihia Abu Dhia, who is a Hamas operative, was arrested on 31 March 2019 in the Jerusalem-area village of A-Zaim in connection with the alleged plot. He had agreed to carry out a suicide bombing for handlers in Gaza. The intended target was a traffic artery in Ma’aleh Adumim, a settlement near Jerusalem. (Arutz-7)

TAU UNVEILS NEW METHOD FOR DETECTING, DELAYING PARKINSON'S: New research by a team of scientists at Tel Aviv University could significantly delay the progression of Parkinson’s disease. There are close to 10 million people around the world affected by the disease. Parkinson’s affects predominantly dopamine-producing neurons in a specific area of the brain called substantia nigra. Symptoms generally develop slowly over years. As such, according to TAU, by the time a patient is diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, 50% to 80% of these cells in that part of the brain are already dead, possibly due to the development of toxicity. The researchers have developed a new method for tracking early stages of aggregation of alpha-synuclein using super-resolution microscopy and advanced analysis, explained Prof. Uri Ashery, co-author of the study. “This is a significant step forward in the world of Parkinson’s research,” Ashery said, adding that “by detecting aggregates in relatives of Parkinson’s disease patients, we can provide early detection and intervention and the opportunity to track and treat the disease before symptoms are even detected.” The team is currently working to implement the methods in a minimally invasive manner with Parkinson’s patients. HEALTH MATTERS MOST IN ISRAEL, STUDY SHOWS: A recent study asked citizens of Israel to prioritize what mattered to them most by the quality of life indicators. Across the board for all sectors including Israelis, Arabs, and Haredi, health was the top priority. Quality of life indicators covered ten areas, such as family, health, education, income, employment, housing, community, environment, public infrastructure, and exposure to crime. Jews, whether religious or secular, held similar values and responded with the same top six indicators as the priorities. They were health, personal well-being and family life, education, income, and economic status, employment and housing. Arabs surveyed responded with a compatible set of values; however, they ranked education and employment over family and personal wellbeing. Between men and women, women ranked health and wellbeing higher, while men prioritized public infrastructure. (Janglo)
