Freedom from Bondage and Slavery
[Passover Appeal letter 2019]

One person gives freely,

yet gains more;

another withholds what is right,

only to become poor.

A generous person will be enriched,

and the one who gives a drink of water

will receive water.

~ Proverbs 11:24–25

Dear Friends,

In normal circumstances, the journey from Egypt to Canaan would have taken less than a month.  So why did it take the Israelites 40 years to reach the Promised Land?

The Wilderness Way

Right from the start, God chose to take them not “by way of the land of the Philistines,” which was the shortest route, but “by way of the wilderness of the Red Sea,” in case they “change their minds when they see war, and return to Egypt” (Exodus 13:17–18).

God needed them to shed the fearful, earthly-minded character they’d inherited as slaves and be shaped into people of faith.  People who no longer saw themselves as grasshoppers, crawling on the ground in subjection to the “giants” of the world, but as ambassadors and priests of Almighty God.  People who desired to take upon themselves duty and responsibility.  People who joyfully served God and each other.

Now we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who comes from God, so that we may understand what has been freely given to us by God.

~ 1 Corinthians 2:12

A Journey of Hope!

The remarkable story of how God took the Israelites from being slaves in Egypt to rulers in the Promised Land is mirrored throughout the Bible and throughout history, in us.

It’s always good for us to remember the state we were in when He found us, so that we are grateful for where we are today, and Passover is one opportunity to do it.  It also helps us to feel compassion and hope for those who are still in “the wilderness of the Red Sea” – those who are still on the journey from slavery to freedom.

God's desire is to see us all as people who love freely because we are loved by Him – people who set an example to those around us and freely share what was given to us.

Deliver the Poor!

For you were called to be free, brothers; only don’t use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but serve one another through love.

~ Galatians 5:13

VFI is preparing a large distribution to support hundreds of families for the most needed season, Passover.

Our desire is that, in due time, the people we touch will be lifted up to serve others in need.

You can be part of the transformation.  Gifts of £115 will provide each family with food for their table.  Our goal is to reach 1,000 families this Passover.

Freedom is the ability to give generously!

Blessings to you and your loved ones,

Happy Passover!
