Today marks 80 years since Kristallnacht (“Night of Broken Glass”) in Nazi Germany. On that horrific night, the intensity of hatred and violence that anti-Semites harbor materialized in the streets and villages of Germany, Austria, and the Sudetenland. Nazis set fire to synagogues, destroyed Jewish homes, schools, and businesses, and killed nearly 100 Jews.
It is incredibly sad and painful to see that anti-Semitism continues to rear its ugly head time after time in persecution of Jews throughout the world. On October 27th, 11 innocent people in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania were brutally murdered in the Tree of Life – Or L'Simcha Congregation synagogue simply for being Jewish. Among the victims were two developmentally disabled brothers and an elderly couple who were married in the synagogue in 1956.
Vision for Israel is acting to empower the Israeli people in answer to this ongoing hate. We honor the memories of those lost during Kristallnacht, stand with the Pittsburgh shooting victims and their families, and say “never again!”
