UK FEAST OF TABERNACLES 2018: ISRAEL UNITED: Join Vision for Israel in London at the Emmanuel Center on Friday Oct, 5 and Saturday Oct 6, 2018! When a tabernacle – "Succah" – is built in preparation for The Feast of Tabernacles, the roof must be made of a natural material – something that grew in the ground. It is called the "Sekhakh", which means covering. It is a reminder that God is our covering, and He is not just concerned with our spiritual needs, but our natural ones, as well. 2018 is Israel’s 70th year as a modern nation. Through the centuries, God has been her covering, and He continues to keep His promises to her and to His people. So let’s come together and celebrate! At the Feast of Tabernacles 2018: Israel United, we will: Experience worship with a live, local UK band as well as our own Barry & Batya Segal; Enjoy teachings focused on Israel and the Middle East, featuring Evangelist David Hathaway, Pastor Dennis Greenidge and Barry and Batya Segal; Join in intercession for Israel at this important time in her history; and Remember God’s goodness, protection, generosity, care and covering of those who are faithful to Him. For more information on this coming celebration including meeting times and maps to the Emmanuel Center click on:

GLOBAL JEWISH POPULATION REACHES 14.7 MILLION: The total number of Jews reached 14.7 million this year, slightly up from 14.6 million from last year. The increase can be traced to Jews living in Israel, which now stands at 6.6 million, up from 6.5 million, and which constitutes the biggest Jewish community per country. Israel counts an additional 400,000 Law-Of-Return citizens (who are not listed as Jews with the Civil Registration). The majority of the 8.1 million strong diaspora lives in the USA (5.7 million). Canada has another 391,000 Jews. In Europe, France boasts the largest number of Jews, counting 453,000 souls, before the UK's 290,000. The combined Jewish population in Arab and Muslim countries results in an estimated 27,000, of which 15,000 live in Turkey, 5,800 in Iran, 2,000 in Morocco and 1,000 in Tunisia. According to this research, the number of people potentially eligible under the Law of Return amounts to 23.5 million. Jewish Agency Chairman, Isaac Herzog, sent Rosh Hashanah greetings to all these communities around the globe in seven languages (English, French, Russian, Amharic, Spanish, Portuguese and Hungarian). IDF SPOKESPERSON: CAN THE RESIDENTS FEEL SAFER ON THE EVE OF THE HOLIDAY? IDF Spokesperson Ronen Manelis on Sunday 9 Sept. 2018 discussed the IDF's high level of preparedness for the Tishrei holidays and stressed that the IDF forces are ready for any threat. “The test is the security test: Can the residents today, on the eve of the holiday, feel safer? The answer is clear and sharp. The residents live their lives while the IDF operates,” said Manelis. "The past year has been characterized by many actions on the northern border. Despite the fact that hundreds of actions took place, the quiet has been maintained throughout the year as a result of the use of a responsible and powerful force,” he continued. “The IDF in recent hours completed assessments of the situation in various sectors. The commanders are patrolling the area and the Chief of Staff has held a final consultation. We take care of the forces who stayed on the field during the holiday by providing them with the appropriate conditions. The forces are doing everything to ensure that the holiday will pass quietly and safely and allow citizens to enjoy this time of celebration," the IDF Spokesperson concluded. (Arutz-7) Pray for the on-going protection of Israel’s residents and visitors from abroad during the entirety of the Jewish High Holidays which will continue, off and on, through the end of Sept. 2018. “Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.” Ps.121:4

TRUMP: JEWS’ STRENGTH AND PERSEVERANCE INSPIRE US ALL: USA President Donald Trump wished the Jewish people a Happy New Year ahead of the holiday of Rosh Hashanah, which began at sundown on 9 September 2018. “Melania and I wish all Jewish people Shana Tova and send our warmest greetings to those celebrating Rosh Hashanah and the start of the High Holy Days,” he said. “Rosh Hashanah is the beginning of the New Year in the Jewish faith. Far and wide, the trumpet of the shofar signals both a time of reflection and repentance. Along with devout prayer and fellowship, Jews worldwide will practice teshuva during the Ten Days of Repentance to deepen their relationship with God,” continued Trump. “Today, we reflect on the importance of religious liberty and ask that the Almighty bless Jewish families, both in the United States and around the world. The Jewish people have endured and overcome unthinkable persecution and suffering. Yet, despite the challenges they have faced, their strength and perseverance continue to inspire us all. Melania and I pray that the High Holy Days are filled with God’s peace, love, and mercy. We wish a blessed and happy New Year to all those observing Rosh Hashanah,” concluded the President. (INN)

GREENBLATT: ‘PRAY WITH ME’ FOR RELEASE OF HAMAS-HELD ISRAELI CAPTIVES': United States envoy Jason Greenblatt called on Jews around the world to pray with him this new year for the release of two Israeli captives and the remains of two IDF soldiers held by Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip. “This Rosh Hashanah I will pray for the Goldin and Shaul families that Hamas will return Hadar and Oron to them. I will pray for the Mengistu and al-Sayed families, that Hamas will return Avera and Hisham to them. Please pray with me,” Greenblatt tweeted on 7 Sept. 2018 in advance of the holiday. The Mengistu and al-Sayed families also issued a call the previous day for the release of the two men, both of whom suffer from mental illness. On Friday the Goldin family held a protest near the Gaza border in which they called for the release of the two captives and the remains of their son Hadar and that of Oron Shaul, both of whom are presumed to have been killed in the 2014 Gaza war. (J.Post) Please pray for the release of Israel’s captive sons, and the remains of those who lost their lives in the 2014 Gaza war, to their grieving families.

IRAN SAYS IT COMPLETED CENTRIFUGES PLANT: Iran’s nuclear chief, Ali Akbar Salehi, said on Sunday 9 Sept. 2018 that "Ayatollah Khamenei last June ordered us to assemble and complete a very advanced hall for the construction of modern centrifuges, and this hall has now been fully equipped and set up." Salehi said Iran's plans to build nuclear reactors for ships, was "advancing well but would take some time to complete.” An additional step in reaction to the recent USA withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal “might be to suspend some of the limitations within the nuclear agreement, for example on the volume and level of enrichment," he added. "And the final scenario can be a complete exit from the nuclear accord, which I hope will never happen, with the help of remaining signatories, because everyone would suffer," said Salehi. Tehran has demanded that Europe come up with an economic package to offset the effects of the recent USA withdrawal but so far has found Europe’s proposals to be unsatisfactory. Last week, Iran threatened to begin uranium enrichment beyond previous levels if the remaining parties fail to uphold the 2015 deal. (Arutz-7) Meanwhile, on Sunday 9 Sept. 2018, in what can only be described as a manifest example of Iranian duplicity, Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif wished the Jewish people a Happy New Year on Twitter. “As the sun gives way to the moon, I wish all my Jewish compatriots and Jews worldwide a very Happy New Year filled with peace and harmony. Happy Rosh Hashanah.” Just last month Zarif offered congratulations to the Lebanese people and government as well as the Hezbollah terrorist movement on the anniversary of the Arab country’s [self-proclaimed] victory in the 2006 war against the Israeli regime.

TRUMP TO CLOSE PALESTINIAN LEADERSHIP’S OFFICE: The Trump administration is set to announce the closing of the Palestine Liberation Organization’s office in Washington, D.C., in a bid to pressure the Palestinian leadership to participate in Middle East peace efforts. National security adviser John Bolton made the announcement on Monday 10 September 2018. “The United States will always stand with our friend and ally, Israel,” said Bolton. “The Trump administration will not keep the office open when the Palestinians refuse to start direct and meaningful negotiations with Israel. The national security adviser has also threatened the International Criminal Court saying the USA will impose sanctions against the organization if it investigates the USA and Israel. “If the court comes after us, Israel or other allies, we will not sit quietly.” He noted that ICC judges and prosecutors could be banned from entering the USA as a retaliatory measure.

“We will sanction their funds in the USA financial system, and we will prosecute them in the USA criminal system,” he added. “We will do the same for any company or state that assists an ICC investigation of Americans.” Then-Secretary of State Rex Tillerson deemed the PLO responsible for violating a provision in USA law that prohibits the group from trying to get the International Criminal Court to prosecute Israelis for crimes against Palestinians. The penalty of such violation is closing down of the office in Washington. The accusation of breaking the USA law came after Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas said in a Sept. 2018 UN General Assembly speech that the Palestinians had “called on the International Criminal Court to open an investigation and to prosecute Israeli officials for their involvement in settlement activities and aggressions against our people.” (Fox)

DEFIANCE FROM ASSAD: Syrian and Russian jets struck anti-Assad forces in Idlib on 7 Sept. 2018 as the leaders of Russia, Iran and Turkey - the three main nations with boots on the ground in the war-torn country - started their summit meeting in Teheran. The conquest of Idlib will allow Syrian leader Bashar Assad to regain full control of the country. On Sunday 9 Sept. 2018, President Assad approved a gas attack in the Idlib province, which is the country’s last rebel stronghold. Reports of Assad's approval came about a week after President Trump warned the strongman and his allies not to “recklessly attack” the province. Trump called any gas attack a potential “grave humanitarian mistake.” UN officials have said the offensive on Idlib would trigger a wave of displacement that could uproot an estimated 800,000 people and discourage refugees from returning home. The USA and France said that an Idlib offensive would trigger a humanitarian crisis and warned that a chemical attack in Idlib would prompt a western retaliation. The Wall Street Journal reported that the international pressure did little to sway Assad, who benefits from support from Russia and Iran. (Fox)

ARCHAEOLOGISTS SCOUR ISRAELS COAST IN BID TO PRESERVE RELICS: Underwater archaeologists have been scouring the seabed where a gas pipeline is being built off Israel's coast in a bid to preserve relics near the ancient port of Dor, once a key Mediterranean trade hub. The pipeline from the deep-sea Leviathan gas field, due to begin production next year, comes ashore near Dor Beach. The Israel Antiquities Authority over the past year has found earthenware jugs, anchors, and the remains of wrecked ships. The pipeline is being buried 15-20 meters below the seabed to minimize any impact on the surroundings. (Reuters)
