USA Imposes New Sanctions on Iran
“Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue lasts only a moment.” Prov. 12:19
USA IMPOSES NEW SANCTIONS ON IRAN: The USA sanctioned 5 Iranians with links to Revolutionary Guards after Secretary of State Mike Pompeo threatened “strongest sanctions in history.” The USA imposed the new sanctions on Tues. 22 May 2018. The five are linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps. The move comes one day after USA Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced the Trump Administration's new Iran policy. During his address, Pompeo detailed twelve steps Iran must take to reach a new agreement with the United States, including the complete dismantling of its nuclear program. Pompeo warned that if Iran did not comply with the United States' demands, it would face the "strongest sanctions in history." Two weeks ago, USA President Donald Trump withdrew from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal which had been reached by his predecessor Barack Obama. (Arutz-7)
USA LAYS OUT DEMANDS FOR NEW IRAN DEAL: Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Monday 21 May 2018 spelled out 12 requirements for a new agreement with Tehran that would require a wholesale change in Iran's military posture in the Middle East. Pompeo said Iran must completely dismantle its nuclear program, withdraw all of its forces from Syria, end its support for the Lebanon-based Hezbollah group and all terrorist organizations, stop sending arms to the Houthi militia in Yemen, release all USA and allied citizens it has detained, and cease its threats to destroy Israel. Barring a reversal of its aggressive stance, Pompeo said, Iran would be saddled with "the strongest sanctions in history." Tehran swiftly rejected all demands. NETANYAHU THANKS USA FOR NEW IRAN POLICY OUTLINED BY POMPEO: PM Benjamin Netanyahu applauded USA Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s speech on 21 May 2018 outlining the 12 steps Iran must take for sanctions relief, saying this is “the right policy.” The prime minister said that USA President Donald Trump has “changed policy in fundamental ways,” not only regarding Jerusalem, but also Iran. Netanyahu went on to say that Pompeo in his speech echoed Trump’s strong positions regarding Iran: that there should be tough economic sanctions and no Iranian nuclear enrichment, and that the Islamic Republic must leave Syria. “We believe that is the right policy,” Netanyahu said. “We believe it is the only policy that can ultimately guarantee the security of the Middle East and bring peace in our region, and we call on all countries to follow America’s lead here, because Iran is an aggressive force.” The prime minister said that if Tehran genuinely wanted to pursue a peaceful nuclear program, it would “not need a single centrifuge.” He added that they “would not hide their secret archives for making nuclear weapons.” Israel stole and revealed the nuclear archives earlier this month, in a stunning intelligence coup. Netanyahu said that the fact that Iran did not destroy the was a clear sign of Tehran’s intentions. (J.Post)
THE MEDIA’S MISPLACED SYMPATHY FOR HAMAS LYNCH MOB: As evidence mounts that Hamas intended to murder Israeli children, women and men after breaching the border fence to Israel, Hamas apologists must ask themselves why they are on the wrong side of morality. The recent border attacks and attempted invasion of Israel by Hamas was anything but a peaceful protest. It was a lynch mob targeting Israeli day care centers, schools, and homes. The goal of the lynchers, according to Yahya Sinwar, the Hamas political leader, was to “take down the border” and “tear their hearts from their bodies.” According to an article in The Wall Street Journal, “Hamas posted maps for their operatives showing the quickest routes from the border to Israeli homes, schools and day care centers near the border.” Yet many in the media insist on portraying this invasion as a peaceful demonstration. One of Hamas’ co-founders, Mahmoud Al-Zahar, recently told the truth in an interview with Al Jazeera: “When we talk about ‘peaceful,’ we are deceiving the public.” Only Hamas can stop the bloodshed. But it won’t as long as the media gives it public relations victories every time Israel kills in self-defense. Thankfully, the Israeli military, who are the good guys in this encounter, were and are there to protect innocent civilians from being lynched. The time has come, indeed, it is long past, for the world to recognize and condemn this Hamas tactic, which the media incentivizes by its gruesome focus on the body count. (Fox) Continue to pray against wide-spread media distortion of the facts when Israel is forced to protect its borders, its communities and citizens against murderous Palestinian and other enemy attacks. Intercede against anti-Israel bias in global media outlets.
IDF SPOKESMAN: WORLD “FELL FOR HAMAS LIES” IN GAZA: Hamas provided free transportation throughout Gaza to the recent border demonstrations for civilians, including women and children. Hamas hired them as extras, paying $14 a person or $100 a family for attendance - and $500 if they managed to get injured. Hamas forced all of their commanders and operatives to go to the border dressed as civilians, each serving as a director of an area. Hamas gave anyone with a video camera front-row access to the show and free Wi-Fi. Hamas called it a "peaceful protest," and much of the world simply fell for it. But the basic tenets required for a protest do not exist in Gaza. Under Hamas control, there is no freedom of speech, no freedom of assembly, no freedom of religion, no freedom of the press. There can be no such thing as a peaceful protest in Gaza. On Facebook, Hamas posted maps for their operatives showing the quickest routes from the border with Israel to Israelis' homes, schools, and day-care centers to murder and maim Israeli men, women and children. Does that sound like a peaceful protest to you? Some of Israel's greatest friends might have preferred that Israel had looked better in the media this past week, but the IDF always chooses truth. The soldiers of the IDF won this week by keeping Israeli families safe and by stopping Hamas from accomplishing its stated goals. (Wall St. Journal)
ABBAS REPLACEMENT UNCLEAR AS PALESTINIANS FEAR LEADERSHIP VACUUM: As many Israelis and Americans celebrate President Trump’s decision to move the USA Embassy to Jerusalem, the mood among young Palestinians is close to despair, with fear that their aging and ineffective leadership has handicapped their dreams and crippled their future. They point to the recently elected members of the Palestine Liberation Organization’s executive committee, the 18 people making top decisions. Although the median age is 20 for Palestinians living in Judea & Samaria and just 17 for those living in Gaza, the average age of new committee members is 70. Partisan politics has failed to produce a younger generation of leaders, economic opportunities for youths or movement on the Palestinians’ ultimate goal of an independent state. A blocked political system in the Palestinian territories has prevented new dynamic figures from emerging. A March 2018 poll conducted by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research found that 68% of respondents said Abbas should resign and just 27% said he should remain in office. (Washington Times) According to Scripture, “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people” (Prov. 14:34). The selection of leaders who understand and lead according to God’s righteous standards can bring great blessings to a nation. Please continue to pray that wise and sensible leaders will be raised up among the Palestinian people.
ISRAEL PROTESTS DUTCH TV SHOW THAT MOCKED EUROVISION WINNER: Israel's ambassador to the Hague sent a protest letter on Tues. 22 May 2018 to the management of a Dutch channel which broadcast a satirical program that mocked Netta Barzilai and the song that won the Eurovision Song Contest. The program featured a famous comedian who dressed up as Barzilai, and criticized the activities of IDF soldiers in Gaza. Among other things, the comic sang, "Look how beautifully I launch my missiles," "The world's leaders obediently eat from my palm," "Palestinians are not invited to my party," "The Al-Aqsa Mosque will be empty soon," "Look how wonderful, I'm throwing a bomb," and "There will be no Palestine here." MOBILEYE’S SELF-DRIVING TEC. GOING INTO 8 MILLION CARS: Jerusalem-based Intel subsidiary Mobileye reportedly has struck a deal to supply its future EyeQ5 chips for integration in eight million partially automated cars to be manufactured by an unidentified European automaker in 2021. Partial automation, a step toward the eventual goal of fully self-driving vehicles, requires the driver to remain alert to road conditions. Mobileye is a world leader in advanced driver-assistance technology, dominating about 70% of the current market. “By the end of 2019, we expect over 100,000 Level 3 cars with Mobileye installed,” said CEO/CTO Amnon Shashua, referring to self-driving cars in which the driver has about 10 seconds to take over if the system fails.
