UNRWA Under USA Investigation
“He thwarts the plans of the crafty, so that their hands achieve no success.” Job 5:12
UNRWA UNDER USA INVESTIGATION: UNRWA - the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees - is being investigated by the USA government over suspicions about its growing overlap with the goals of the PLO, to the point of accepting violence, terrorism and incitement. Earlier this month a team from the USA Attorney General's office launched a probe, on behalf of Congress, into whether the textbooks used in UNRWA schools in Judea, Samaria and Gaza included anti-Semitic content and encouraged terrorism. The team is also investigating to what extent UNRWA is linked to terrorist entities, particularly in Gaza. One example has to do with UNRWA's links to Palestinian singer Mohammad Assaf, who was made its official youth ambassador. Assaf was supposedly chosen to promote peace, but his songs praise violence and glorify a martyr's death and jihad. He also sings about the vision of a Palestinian state that will stand on the entire territory of Israel. His music videos, broadcast on PA and Hamas television, have background images of Palestinians fighting IDF soldiers and funerals of "martyrs." (Israel Hayom)
UNRWA: A BRIEF REVIEW: The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), actually perpetuates the refugee problem it was created to solve, while promoting Palestinian rejectionism and Jew hatred. The original 700,000 Palestinians leaving Israel at the behest of their Arab leaders have now been magically transformed into over 5.6 million "refugees" registered with UNRWA, about half of all the Palestinians living in the world today. The "temporary" UN agency has developed into a bloated bureaucracy with a staff of 30,000, almost all of who are Palestinians (many are activists of Hamas, the Islamist terrorist group). Less than 5% of UNRWA's clients have ever lived in Israel, but the agency's regulations state that all descendants of the original displaced persons shall retain their refugee rights in perpetuity. How tragic that Hamas leaders have used billions of dollars of UNRWA foreign aid money to build terrorist attack tunnels into Israel to buy and use weapons against the Jewish state, and to pad their own pockets. So much could have been done to build up the suffering Gaza Strip society, to provide jobs, homes, schools, and so much more. Instead, Hamas continues to feed its men, women and children on hate and jihad. An entire population is starving on such a diet. (Compiled by JNN editors) Pray that the Hamas terror group will be removed from power and that others with a positive attitude towards rebuilding the Gaza Strip and co-operating with Israel will be put into places of leadership.
‘ISRAEL PUTS TERROR TUNNEL DISCOVERED UNDER GAZA BORDER ON DISPLAY’: The IDF brought journalists on Thurs. 18 Jan. 2018 to film a two-kilometer (1.25 mile) tunnel dug by terrorists from the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip to Israel, saying it was putting the construction on display to show the continuing threat it faces from the territory. Islamic Jihad has claimed responsibility for building the tunnel, saying its aim was to use it to attack Israel in the next armed confrontation. Twelve Gaza terrorists, most of them from Islamic Jihad, were killed in the destruction of the tunnel and in rescue efforts when Israel destroyed the underground passage on 30 October 2017. The tunnel, around the height and width of an upright person, was lined with concrete slabs. It was discovered about 120 meters inside Israel about six meters below ground, as tunnelers burrowed towards the surface looking to build an exit, the Israeli military said. “The tunnel that we see here is one of three tunnels that have been destroyed over the last two months,” Israeli military spokesman Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus said. “The threat has not passed and the terror from Hamas has not passed.” (Algemeiner)
ISRAEL’S STORMY WEATHER BRINGS POWER OUTAGES, ROAD CLOSURES AND FLOOD WARNINGS: The unusually powerful storm that hit Israel late Thurs 18 Jan. 2018 continued into Friday morning, dropping large quantities of rain, particularly in the north, closing roads and bringing wind gusts in excess of 120 kilometers per hour in Tel Aviv. The small village of Dalton in the northern Galilee received the greatest amount of rain, with 45 millimeters (1.8 inches) falling overnight. The rest of the country also experienced significant rainfall. Mount Hermon, Israel highest mountain, saw 15 centimeters (6 inches) of snowfall on its peak, but heavy winds mean the ski site at the mountain will remain closed at least through Friday. Flash flooding is expected throughout the Judean desert, Dead Sea and in the Negev as dry riverbeds are overwhelmed by the amount of rain running down from the mountain tops. The stormy weather was expected to die down by Friday afternoon, but temperatures will remain unusually cold for this time of the year. Rain is expected to return on Mon. 22 Jan.2017. (Times of Israel) This welcome, very needed stormy weather, is an answer to prayer in our drought-stricken region. Please continue to intercede for abundant precipitation during this rainy season but without damage to people or property. Pray for Israel’s poor, who often don’t have the money for adequate heating, to find the means to keep warm.

TWO COUNTER-TERRORISM BORDER POLICEMEN WOUNDED IN JENIN: Two border policemen were injured during the shoot-out with Palestinian terrorists in the city of Jenin on Wed. 17 Jan. 2018. The operation was launched when new information in the inquiry into the terrorist murder of Rabbi Raziel Shevach came to light Wed. afternoon. Israeli security forces arrested the terrorists who resisted and opened fire on the soldiers and policemen present. The two policemen were shot during this fire exchange. One was lightly wounded and the other severely wounded, the one who was severally wounded has stabilized. A Palestinian terrorist, Ahmed Jarrar, was shot dead during the exchange of fire and a home used by the terrorist cell was detonated. It is unclear if any other terrorists are in the wreckage. Hamas on Thurs. 18 Jan. 2018 said the Palestinian terrorist killed by Israeli security forces overnight in Jenin was part of its Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades. (J.Post) Pray for the swift recovery of these two courageous policemen.
ISRAELI COURT ORDERS DETENTION OF PALESTINIAN TEEN UNTIL END OF HER ASSAULT TRIAL: An Israeli military judge has ruled that a 16-year-old Palestinian girl who slapped and kicked Israeli soldiers will remain in jail for the duration of her trial for assault. The Court concluded that Tamimi would pose a danger if released on bail. Ahed Tamimi was arrested after she was filmed confronting an Israeli officer and a soldier outside her home in a village in Judea & Samaria on 15 Dec. 2017 following what Israel said was a stone-throwing assault on its troops. The footage, which went viral, shows the 16-year-old slapping an Israeli officer and punching a soldier next to him in the face. Appearing in court on 17 Jan.2018, Tamimi, whose father is a prominent Palestinian activist, appeared defiant, smiling and waving at her father who sat at the back of the courtroom, as he was forbidden to get close to his daughter. Tamimi's lawyer Gaby Laski denied that her client had called for violent resistance against Israel. Judge Maj. Chaim Billet ruled that, cumulatively, the 10 counts of shoving soldiers and throwing rocks at them over around 20 months were enough to define Ahed Tamimi as dangerous for purposes of keeping her in custody pending her trial. Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman praised the court's decision to keep Tamimi in custody, tweeting: "Israel will not permit the harming of its soldiers and anybody trying to do so will pay a heavy price." The 16-year-old, who has been held in jail for almost a month, has been hailed as a hero by Palestinians. (ABC/J.Post)
TILLERSON SAYS USA TROOPS TO STAY IN SYRIA TO COUNTER ASSAD AND IRAN: Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said on 17 Jan. 2018 that USA troops will remain in Syria not just to fight jihadists but also to counter the power of Bashar al-Assad and his ally Iran. In a speech on the USA strategy to help end Syria’s seven-year civil war, Tillerson stressed that the mission of the USA military is to destroy the ISIS group and prevent its return. But he also made it clear that the open-ended deployment is intended to help create enough stability for Syrians to be able to remove Assad from office and reject Iranian influence. “A total withdrawal of American personnel at this time would restore Assad to continue his brutal treatment against his own people,” Tillerson told an audience at Stanford University. “A murderer of his own people cannot generate the trust required for long-term stability,” he said. “A stable, unified, and independent Syria ultimately requires post-Assad leadership in order to be successful.” The United States has deployed around 2,000 ground troops to Syria and its warplanes patrol over the east of the country, hunting remnants of the ISIS group.
The USA works with the Syrian Democratic Forces, a militia dominated by Kurdish fighters which Washington sees as a basis for a 30,000-strong border force to hold eastern Syria. Assad’s Damascus regime has condemned this force as traitors, and USA ally Turkey, wary of the presence of the YPG Kurdish militia in its ranks, is highly suspicious of its role. Tillerson insisted that Washington is not being dragged into the Syrian civil war as a combatant seeking violent regime change, nor into a long-term nation-building mission. Instead, he argued that the USA role will provide stability to allow a UN-led peace process to resume and find a Syrian-led alternative to Assad’s rule and the Iranian presence. “The departure of Assad through the UN-led Geneva process will create the conditions for a durable peace within Syria and security along the borders,” Tillerson said.“USA disengagement from Syria would provide Iran with the opportunity to further strengthen its own position in Syria. As we have seen from Iran’s proxy wars and public announcements, Iran seeks dominance in the Middle East and the destruction of our ally Israel,” he said. (Times of Israel)
