Trump Withdraws From Iran Nuclear Deal

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Eph. 6:12

TRUMP WITHDRAWS FROM IRAN NUCLEAR DEAL: USA President Donald Trump announced on Tues. 8 May 2018 that the USA is withdrawing from the Iran nuclear deal. The President made the announcement during a press conference at the White House. Trump called the 2015 agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) an "embarrassment" that should never have been reached. "After the sanctions were lifted, the dictatorship used its new funds to build nuclear capable missiles, support terrorism, and cause havoc throughout the Middle East and beyond." Trump criticized the JCPOA's sunset provisions. "The agreement was so poorly negotiated that even if Iran fully complies, the regime can still be on the verge of a nuclear breakout in just a short period of time. The deal's sunset provisions are totally unacceptable." He also stated that that deal's inspection provisions are too weak and that it failed to constrain Iran’s ballistic missile program and its support for terrorism. Trump cited Israeli PM Binyamin Netanyahu's presentation of Iran's nuclear archive last week as proof that Iran cannot be trusted to abide by its commitments under the JCPOA or to abandon its desire to develop nuclear weapons. He said that the USA would reinstate sanctions on Iran. "We will be instituting the highest level of nuclear sanctions. We will not allow American citizens to be threatened with destruction, and we will not allow a regime that chants 'death to America' to gain access to the most deadly weapons on Earth." NETANYAHU APPLAUDS TRUMP’S ‘BRAVE DECISION’ TO PULL OUT OF IRAN DEAL: Israeli PM Binyamin Netanyahu praised USA President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal on Tuesday night, 8 May 2018. "President Trump's decision is a courageous decision and a right decision," said Netanyahu. "The people of Israel greatly appreciate this decision. If the agreement had been maintained, it would have allowed Iran enough material to develop a full arsenal of bombs," Netanyahu added. Trump announced that the USA was withdrawing from the 2015 nuclear agreement and reinstating sanctions on Iran during a White House press conference Tuesday. He cited the deal's sunset clause, inadequate inspection provisions, and failure to deal with Iran’s ballistic missile program and support for terrorism in his decision. The president also cited PM Neyanyahu's presentation of Iran's nuclear archive last week as proof that Iran cannot be trusted to abide by its commitments under the JCPOA or to abandon its desire to develop nuclear weapons. Israel’s President, Reuven Rivlin added that "The decision made by the president of the United States constitutes a significant step in ensuring the security of the State of Israel, the security of the region and the security of the entire free world. Along with the nuclear threat, we do not forget for a moment the arms race that Iran is leading on our borders and we follow the developments closely and responsibly, in order to protect the security of our citizens. The threat of Iranian consolidation is not placed at the door of the State of Israel alone, and therefore international pressure is necessary to combat this danger." (Arutz-7/J.Post)

ISRAEL’S DEFENSE MINISTER PRAISED THE DECISION TO REMOVE THE USA FROM THE JCOPA: "President Trump, leader of the free world, stated this evening [Tues. 8 May, 2018] to the Ayatollahs in a clear and decisive voice: enough!" said Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman. "Iran is a dictatorship that supports and funds terror and death all over the world. Iran itself is a terrorist entity that aspires to nuclear weapons. This is a courageous leadership step that will eventually lead to the fall of this terrible and cruel regime." Likewise Intelligence Minister Yisrael Katz called Trump’s decision “brave and historic,” and compared it to the USA President’s behavior towards North Korea, saying the only way to stop dictatorships that want nuclear weapons is through sanctions and willingness to use force. DANON CALLS TRUMP’S MOVE A ‘HISTORIC’ DECISION: Israel Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon praised the USA President’s decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal. “This is a historic decision that provides the prospect for a new era of security and stability in the Middle East. A united front against this regime that promotes terror and sows instability can put an end to the Iranian aggression which threatens our region and the entire international community.” (J.Post)

EUROPE LEADERS ISSUE JOINT STATEMENT ATTACKING TRUMP’S WITHDRAWAL FROM IRAN NUCLEAR DEAL: The UK, France and Germany have issued a joint statement assailing President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw the USA from the nuclear deal with Iran. Moments after Mr. Trump said he would abandon the pact, resisting overtures from European nations who had urged him to preserve America’s commitment, UK Prime Minister Theresa May, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron said the decision to pull out of the Iran nuclear deal was a matter of “regret and concern” but they remained committed to the deal. SAUDI ARABIA SUPPORTS USA DECISION TO PULL OUT FROM NUCLEAR AGREEMENT: Saudi Arabia announced Tues. 8 May 2018 that it supports USA President Donald Trump's decision to pull out from the Iran nuclear agreement, according to Al Arabiya television news channel. "Iran has used its financial revenues from the nuclear agreement to increase its aggression," according to the announcement. (Ynet)

ISRAEL BRACES FOR IRANIAN MISSILE ATTACK: The IDF is preparing for an Iranian assault on Israel's northern border and fortifying positions and towns in the north. On Sunday 6 May 2018, every Israeli evening news program cited defense officials warning of a impending Iranian missile strike on the Jewish state. According to the reports, Iran is planning to retaliate for deadly airstrikes on its military installations in Syria. However, Israel's defense officials believe Iran is hoping to avoid sparking an all-out war with the Jewish state, and so will have its proxies in Syria carry out a missile strike on an IDF base in the north of the country. Officials who spoke to Israel's news networks said they had positively identified Iranian preparations for such an attack, and believe it will come very soon. Regardless of the precautions it is taking, it is widely expected that an attack by Iran's proxies would result in Israel launching an all-out assault on the Islamic Republic's military build-up in Syria. This is particularly true after PM Benjamin Netanyahu stated at the weekend that if war with Iran is inevitable, he'd prefer to fight it sooner rather than later. (Israel Today) Intercede against Iran’s preparations and intentions to target Israel’s northern border towns and military positions. Continuous prayer is needed that the escalating buildup of hostile forces in Syria, also in Lebanon, will be scattered. Scripture warns in the book of Jeremiah: “The word of the Lord came to me again: ‘What do you see?’ ‘I see a pot that is boiling,’ I answered. ‘It is tilting toward us from the north.’ The Lord said to me, ‘from the north disaster will be poured out upon all who live in the land,’” Jer. 1:13-14.

LIBERMAN: NO PLACE FOR HYSTERIA AND PANIC: Israel’s Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman stated that the Israeli defense establishment is preparing for an Iranian retaliation in the form of a barrage of missiles fired at Israel. "We have no interest in escalation, but at the same time be ready for any scenario," Liberman said on Monday 7 May 2018. "There is no room for hysteria and panic," Liberman stressed. "Yes, there is a complex situation with many challenges and threats, but we will know how to deal with all the threats and how to manage all the challenges." Liberman also addressed the amendment to allow the Cabinet to declare war. "Nasrallah and the Revolutionary Guards do not need a legal adviser and a Supreme Court. We must preserve the option of responding immediately in real time." Liberman's comments follow reports that Iran is preparing to launch strikes against Israel in "revenge" for last month’s strike on the T-4 base in Syria, a facility believed to be used by Iranian forces stationed in the war-torn country. The base had been used by Iranian drone pilots to control a craft which penetrated Israeli airspace in Feb. 2018. The retaliation by Iran's Revolutionary Guards could include missile fire from Iranian-controlled facilities inside Syria into Israel’s north. Israel’s Education Ministry this week suspended all hikes in Israel's north over fears of war with Iran. HEZBOLLAH ALLIES GAIN IN LEBANON VOTE, UNDERSCORING IRAN SWAY: Hezbollah and its political allies won over half the seats in last weekend's parliamentary elections in Lebanon. This development greatly boosts an Iranian-backed movement fiercely opposed to Israel and underlines Tehran's growing regional clout. Branded a terrorist group by the United States, the heavily armed Shi'ite Hezbollah has grown in strength since joining the war in Syria in support of President Bashar al-Assad in 2012. The gains made on 6 May 2018 by a Hezbollah-backed alliance risk complicating Western policy towards Lebanon, a big recipient of USA military support that is banking on foreign aid and loans to revive its stagnant economy. An Israeli minister said the outcome showed the Lebanese state was indistinguishable from Hezbollah, signaling the risk of Israel hitting Lebanon's government in a future war. The unofficial tally in the first parliamentary elections in nine years indicated sharp losses for Western-backed PM Saad al-Hariri. But he is still set to emerge as the Sunni Muslim leader with the biggest bloc in the 128-seat house, making him the frontrunner to form the next government. Andrew Tabler of the Washington Institute said, "Hariri is going to be weakened in any kind of government going forward. His ability to substantially tame or restrain Hezbollah in Lebanon is going to be very limited.” (Reuters/J.Post)
