Giving Without Borders

No one with any sense of compassion is able to ignore the unbearable situation in Syria that has been going on for more than six years. Innocent children and citizens are living in fear and complete helplessness as they face destruction and the ongoing war.

At the beginning of the war, 25 million people lived in Syria. For seven years the people went through terrifying experiences of horror scenes and atrocities in which half a million people lost their lives—out of those, 50,000 were women and children—and 1.5 million people have been injured. Seven million people, some of whom are women, children, and the elderly, have been uprooted from their homes and live in temporary structures in Syria, without basic living comforts. About 5 million Syrians live under siege and without food supply, toiletries, medical treatment, and sometimes even a roof over their heads. The data points to a disaster of an unimaginable scale—close to 80 percent of the Syrian population suffers from poverty and needs humanitarian aid.

For many months we searched diligently for a way to reach out and send humanitarian aid to the innocent citizens who were affected and injured. It was important for us to do this in the most efficient and safe way.

Unexpectedly, during a meeting with friends, we found out about a medical team that was coming to Israel to take care of the Syrian refugees. We were excited for the opportunity to be able to send aid and started the process of purchasing medicine according to a list we received from the people on the ground. We were even able to double the order of supplies so there would be enough medicine to last for several months.

A few days ago, we met with the contact person, who is a doctor, and through the people of Good Neighbors, we were able to transfer a large supply of medicine, ointments, and vitamins directly to the clinics and the teams caring for the injured, the sick, and the needy Syrians.

Vision for Israel will continue to donate and give needed items in coordination with the teams on the ground. We are proud to be part of a wonderful array of giving without borders!
