LONELY SOLDIERS
Vision for Israel has so far distributed more than 3,000 heavy duty backpacks to "lonely soldiers" in the IDF. The Israel Defense Forces is a very young army compared to most in the world. Israeli citizens serve for 2-3 years right out of high school before college. Most soldiers are able to visit with their families for Shabbat most weekends. But some soldiers are recent immigrants or without family in the country and are classified as Chayal Boded, lonely soldiers. To help make things a bit easier, Vision for Israel gives them backpacks that can carry most of their possessions as they visit with friends or tour around the country on their time off base. We have been told again and again how much it means to them to have that freedom and that they have been cared for by people around the world.
